[Joshua 1:7] "Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do."
God comes to Joshua personally with specific instructions and direction in this scripture. God has already prepared the way but, it will take quite a bit of personal fortitude on Joshua's part. Joshua must have the courage to rise and be confident in the calling that God had placed upon his life.
What are the things God has prepared for you to do? What talents or gifts can you use for God? What are those things that God has given you a passion for? Your courage and strength will rise when you have confidence in the call. You're not just courageous to be courageous, but you are courageous for something. Find our what that something is this week!
[2 Samuel 21:1] "Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David inquired of the Lord..."
There are times in life where circumstances can or could be avoided if we would only inquire God. To inquire simply means to "ask for information from someone". When we think of talking to God, we sometimes make it so difficult. In our minds, we think we have to say certain words and go through specific motions. However, if there are things we need in life it's as simple as asking God. What are His thoughts and opinions on our life? If you need answers this week, do not make it complicated. Simply, inquire the Lord.
[1 Timothy 4:1] "Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons."
We people think of great duos, there is a case to be argued that peanut butter and jelly could rank quite high. They've been together since the dawn of time and no one can argue their greatness when combined. Holy Spirit and the Word of God work the exact same way. While peanut butter and jelly can stand on their own, Holy Spirit and the Word of God were always meant to work in conjunction with one another for the full benefit of the believer. It is key that everything we do line up with the word of God AND Holy Spirit!
[1 John 2:16] "For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world."
There is an increasing sense today to live up to society's expectations. It could be the guy down the street with the flashy car. It may be the Mom at the parent/teacher conference with her designer fashion purse, perfect makeup, and flawless ensemble. It could be the kid with the new iPhone and every other electronic device made available. However, if your real goal is happiness, there is only one way to true joy. When we begin to seek things of the Father, we find a fulfillment that cannot be matched by anything this world offers. If you find yourself looking for contentment this week, look to the way, the truth, and the life.
[Genesis 1:27] "So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."
We have a tendency to underestimate ourselves. We see a reflection that does not speak of our courage, strength, and beauty. How you see yourself matters. But, how God sees you matters even more! We were created in the very image of an all knowing, caring Father. While you may look in the mirror this week and see all of your imperfections, know that God sees a son or daughter He loved so much, that He sacrificed His Son.
[Pslam 13:6] "I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me."
It's sometimes easier to look at everything going wrong in life. We often times take for granted all of the good such as our family, friends, jobs, homes, health... the list goes on! But, if we would just stop for a moment and look around, we would see His blessings. This week, pick at least one thing good in your life and begin to praise God. Thank Him for His favor in that area of your life and begin to ask that He bless those around you in the same way.
[Ephesians 1:10] "And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth."
In the game of life, there can be many ups and down. There are many challenges we face that seem insurmountable. It almost feels as if it is a fixed fight and there is no way to prevail. However, today's scripture is a reminder that in God's timing everything will fall under His authority and we will win. No matter what disappointment, sickness, or opposition you face today, know it IS a fixed fight... IN YOUR FAVOR. We win in Jesus name!
[Mark 3:25] "And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand."
Have you ever wondered how a house is built? What holds up the ceilings and the walls? What parts go into making a house? To simply answer the question... It's A LOT! When you begin to analyze all of these components and question what happens if they do not work together, you quickly realize a collapse is inevitable. Not only must we work to ensure our own homes are protected but, we must come together as believers! God commands unity among His children because, once conflict enters the midst, productivity and usefulness inevitably grind to a halt. The house is weakened and becomes vulnerable to attack. This week, both personally and corporately... protect this house!
[Hebrews 9:2-3] "There were two rooms in that Tabernacle. In the first room were a lampstand, a table, and sacred loaves of bread on the table. This room was called the Holy Place. Then there was a curtain, and behind the curtain was the second room called the Most Holy Place."
Within the Holy Place of the tabernacle, there was an inner room called the Most Holy Place. It was God’s special dwelling place in the midst of His people. The presence of God remained guarded from man behind a thick curtain during the history of Israel. However, Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross changed that. As the veil was torn, the Most Holy Place was made accessible to all. Remember this week that you have access to God's presence no matter where you are. The ultimate offering has been sacrificed and we can now boldly enter into God’s presence!
[John 19:30] "When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit."
This weekend, we will honor the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Through Jesus' sacrifice, we can look at any issue we may face in life and say, "It is finished". Because of His blood, our sins are covered and we are made clean. One definition for the word "finish" is: having lost effectiveness, power, or prestige. As we celebrate our risen Savior, we can say: SICKNESS is finished. ADDICTION is finished. FEAR is finished... anything you fight is FINISHED because of His perfect sacrifice!
