[Matthew 24:39] “... and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be."

Matthew 24 shows us many things!  One of these nuggets is that we as the body of Christ should be ready at all times: any hour, season, or moment.  It is imperative that we recognize signs and seasons that point the return of Jesus. With the truth that has set us free, we must reach out to those around us to share the gospel so that they may share in the joy of salvation. This week, share the good news by being sensitive to the Spirit and walking in boldness!

Love

[John 3:16] "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

John 3:16 is likely the best known verse in all the Bible.  Martin Luther called the verse the miniature gospel.  The verse perfectly summarizes God’s relationship with humanity, the path to salvation, and the ultimate display of love.

The term “loved” translates the Greek verb "agapao". The noun form agape is not an emotional love. It is the love which acts out of concern for others and is genuine.  It is an unconditional love that serves regardless of circumstances.  In a world that tries to make love into everything it's not, we have the conclusive answer found in scripture.  This week, encourage those around you with the love found in John 3:16!

Power in His Name

[Matthew 1:24-25] "Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus."

There is power in the name of Jesus!  However, the power is not in saying words, but in understanding, believing, and having faith in all that the name of Jesus Christ signifies. His name represents His finished work on the cross. Fulfilling God's plan of redemption and salvation, victory over sin, death, and over the devil's entire realm. It is by faith in this name above all names, the name of Jesus Christ, that people are saved, set free from bondage, healed of sickness and disease, and made whole. There is no other name under heaven more powerful!  This week, call on His name for anything you may need and believe!

Defy the Impossible

[Matthew 19:26] "But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Have you ever faced impossible situations? Friends or family could not help you.  You were totally unable to deliver yourself and it seemed as if you faced a brick wall. The reality of our impossibilities, compared to God's almighty power, is outlined again and again in Scripture. The Word consistently reminds us that whatever burden, obstacle, or fear is in front of you, today is another opportunity to ask, “Is anything too hard for God?” It is another opportunity to redefine what might happen if He moved. Look at everything this week as an opportunity to defy the impossible with faith.

Amazing Grace

“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound...”

So begins one of the most beloved hymns of all times by author John Newton.  If you were to stop and think, what does grace sound like?  Grace would sound like peace, rest, comfort, and joy.  It certainly would not sound like chaos, angst, or confusion.

If you find yourself surrounded by all of the uneasy noise of life this week, find a quiet place to remember the sweet sound of amazing grace.  It's a reminder that you can find all you need in the presence of God.

Take Heed

[Matthew 24:4] "And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you."

We live in a culture that teaches us we have to pander to trends and other ideals that contradict the word of God.  If we do not, we risk becoming irrelevant or could potentially offend someone.  We can't mirror culture in order to achieve the goal of gaining bigger church crowds, offerings, or egos.  As Jesus states, "We must never be deceived" by ourselves, others, or the enemy.  This week, guard yourself from anything that steers you away from the truth of God.

Free From Worry

[Matthew 6:8]  "Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him."

It's incredible to think that we have a Father in Heaven who knows what we need before we can even speak the words.  He knows everything about us: our today, tomorrow, inside, and out... He sees it all!  Yet, we sometimes allow doubt and worry to creep in when life's circumstances become overwhelming.  Winston Churchill said it best: "When I look back on all these worries, I remember the story of the old man who said on his deathbed that he had had a lot of trouble in his life, most of which had never happened."  This week, rest in our all knowing Father who has your past, present and future in His hands!

Not By My Strength...

[Genesis 10:8] "Cush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth."

Nimrod was rebellious against God, just like those before him.  He encouraged his people to rely on themselves and not God. During his time, Nimrod was determined to build a gigantic tower as a symbol of power known as the Tower of Babel. However, construction ended when the Lord confused the languages of the people, making it impossible for them to communicate and finish the tower. So, Nimrod was proven wrong—all of man’s strength and ability, even the strength of the mightiest of men, is a gift from God that He can choose to revoke at any time.  This week, allow your strength to come from the one source that will never fail: Jesus Christ!

Uphold the Standard

[Isaiah 58:12] "Those from among you shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In."

The first definition for breach is an act of breaking or failing to observe a law, agreement, or code of conduct. If we look around our society today, there has been a breakdown of relations with God because of the church's failure, as a body, to live up to the code of conduct as a believer.  Spiritually "a repairer of breaches" is one who restores the right way.  We have influence over those around us with our words and actions.  We can repair and rebuild walls that culture has built by upholding the values set forth by the word of God.  This week, repair and restore! Don't break down!
